Summary:

All Daisy Goldsmith wants is to get out of her small town, leaving behind the bullies who’ve taunted her. Attending culinary school in New York has always been her biggest dream—a dream she’s not confident enough to pursue. After all, she’s nothing but a “fat cow.” But when her brother’s best friend, the man who’s always secretly held her heart, moves back to town after college, everything changes for Daisy.

One scrumptious nibble…

The Goldsmith house has always been Jon Roberts’ sanctuary from the crazy of his life. With a broken and dysfunctional family, Jon embraces the Goldsmiths like his own. After getting a real glimpse of the woman Daisy’s becoming, Jon is torn between his loyalty to the family and his desire for his best friend’s little sister.

One delectable bite…

As Daisy and Jon spend more time together, they can’t resist the attraction between them. Once they’ve had a taste, nothing can keep them apart–not their dreams, their families, or the difference in their age. Can someday turn into forever or will they bite off more than they can handle?

My Thoughts:

This is my first book that I have read by Laura ward and I enjoyed it. This is the third book in the series and feel like it can be read as a standalone. Considering I haven’t read the first two books. I’m going to have to go back and read them.

Daisy has a passion for cooking. She wants to be able to go to culinary school, there’s one downside though. Her parents don’t want her to go because they think that she’s to young. So, in trying to convince her parents that she I ready to go she stays home for a year in hopes to prove to them that she’s more than capable.  Jon is someone that is off limits to Daisy because he is her big brothers best friend they all grew up together. Daisy as also had a crush on Jon forever. When they become more than friends because of a deal that they make.  I was happy because then they could finally be together and their feelings only become more intense and I loved every minute if it. Something happened with Jon’s family and he movies into Daisy’s parents and there relationship becomes more special.

All in all I think that this is a great book and I need to go an read the first two in this series.

Summary:

Thomas Fawkes is turning to stone, and the only cure to the Stone Plague is to join his father’s plot to assassinate the king of England.

Silent wars leave the most carnage. The wars that are never declared, but are carried out in dark alleys with masks and hidden knives. Wars where color power alters the natural rhythm of 17th century London. And when the king calls for peace, no one listens until he finally calls for death.

But what if death finds him first?

Keepers think the Igniters caused the plague. Igniters think the Keepers did it. But all Thomas knows is that the Stone Plague infecting his eye is spreading. And if he doesn’t do something soon, he’ll be a lifeless statue. So when his Keeper father, Guy Fawkes, invites him to join the Gunpowder Plot—claiming it will put an end to the plague—Thomas is in.

The plan: use 36 barrels of gunpowder to blow up the Igniter King.

The problem: Doing so will destroy the family of the girl Thomas loves. But backing out of the plot will send his father and the other plotters to the gallows. To save one, Thomas will lose the other.

No matter Thomas’s choice, one thing is clear: once the decision is made and the color masks have been put on, there’s no turning back.

My Thoughts: I love the cover of this book. when I saw it, I thought of a masquerade ball. This book is set in the 17th century London. It is a take on a group of men that organised the Gunpowder Plot of 1605. This isn’t one that I would normally read because it is a historical fiction. This one really intrigued me because you get to wear a mask that gives you the ability to communicate with colours. (Cool right?) There is a King and two different groups the Keepers and Igniters that are wanting one another gone. This was a really unique story. Thomas was a great character, he goes through some things that made him seem very relatable, by the end of the book he becomes very likeable. In the beginning he wasn’t as much, I like that he had a great development. He goes to get a test to see what mask he will get and he doesn’t end up getting one. So, he runs off to London in search of his father so that he can help him. After reading this book I think that I’m going to have to dive into this genre a bit more. If there are more books like this? Then I’m defiantly missing something.  *I received a complimentary copy of this book from Thomas Nelson through NetGalley. Review: The Story of Shit

Genre: Health, Mind and Body

Rating: 3.5/5

Summary:

We are very discreet. We disappear into a small room, perform the task, flush, wash and reappear as if nothing happened. Of course, hygiene is necessary—some faecal bacteria, if re-ingested, can cause very serious problems—and unpleasant aromas are best kept at bay.

But in all this hygienic discretion have we lost touch with an integral part of ourselves—something as much a part of living as breathing, eating and sleeping? Something enriching, creative and even enjoyable.

In The Story of Shit, Dutch biologist Midas Dekkers presents a personal, cultural, scientific, historical and environmental account of shit, from the digestive process and the fascinating workings of the gut, to the act of defecation and toilet etiquette. With irreverent humour and a compelling narrative style, Dekkers brings a refreshing, entertaining and illuminating perspective to a once-taboo subject

My Thoughts:

When I first saw this title I thought it was kind of odd to call a book “The Story Of Shit”. It couldn’t actually be about shit. Could it?

Upon reading and seeing the pictures that were in the book, this was a great read. It was also pretty educational with the history how things were dealt with in the 1800s. The humour that is brought in the book made this a quick read.

This book has anything an everything that has to do with shit.

There were some parts that made me laugh out loud and some cry from laughing.

If your looking for a laugh out loud book, then this is for you. Unless you don’t like the idea of a book being wrapped around “Shit” then maybe this book isn’t for you.

Summary:

A fatal collision — who’s to blame? Two bodies, two souls switch in search of justice.

When fifteen-year-old Hallie gets knocked flying by a Hurricane SUV, her life ends without her ever having kissed a boy. At an otherworldly carnival, she meets and argues with the eighty-two-year-old driver, Susan. Both return to life, only with one catch — they’ve swapped bodies.

Now Hallie has wrinkled skin and achy joints while Susan deals with a forehead zit and a crush on a guy who’s a player. Hallie faces a life in a long-term care residence. Susan gets picked up for shoplifting.

As they struggle with technology, medications, and each other’s fashion foibles, they start to understand and maybe even like each other. But can they work together to prove that a defect in the Hurricane caused the deadly crash? Or will their time run out

My Thoughts:

I had requested this book because the idea of a book that was like Freaky Friday sounded really interesting to me. This was a really quick cute read.

82yr old Susan and 15-year-old Hallie they ended up in a car accident.
Hallie is your typical teenager where Susan is an elderly woman who’s dealing with her own life.

I love that the author made this such an interesting read. Having 2 people swap bodies with such an age gap now knowing they have a better understanding of one another.

I did feel like the book was a bit rushed in bits but all around I enjoyed the book.

Summary:

Damien, a wealthy collector, must hire a skilled art conservator who can do quality work in a hurry. His father’s in danger and the stolen collection must be delivered in pristine condition in six weeks time. Fortunately, Cassandra Strand is more than qualified, and not simply for the job. Cassandra’s spirit and beauty are driving him mad and Damien isn’t one to ignore an opportunity. If he can only convince her to take the job.

Cassie’s put everything she’s had into keeping her art studio up and running, but money is tight and her family is anything but supportive. When Damien walks into her studio to offer her the job of her dreams and the money to solve her problems, Cassie hesitates. Damien is powerful, beautiful, the kind of man a vulnerable woman might turn to. But not her. Not now.

She’d take the job to save her studio, but it would be business only.

My Thoughts:

I loved this book. If there’s ever one that has an artist in it I’m all over it! I think they add an extra something to the story.

I was able to read this book in one sitting. I couldn’t put the book down. Cassandra and Damien story was really captivating.

Damien is a former art thief. When his father gets kidnapped, he has to steal an exotic collection of art just to get his father back.

The paintings that he has to get need to be restored so he contacts Cassandra to fix them.

I found these characters to be very likeable. The sex was good. I didn’t think it was over done. Or to unrealistic.
