Summary:
Words like unnatural and impure started the whispers.
From the very beginning, Ivy Blackwood was different. She was only a child when she was accused of setting the fire, one she passively watched engulf the small house she had called home. Her fingertips burned and her hair singed. Some who watched her crossed themselves, convinced she was soulless for she showed no emotion at all. Calm and dispassionate, even when the screaming started that quickly turned to bellows of agony before dying into nothing but the roaring of the fire.
She was locked away where she couldn’t bring harm to herself or others. To all involved, they had protected the world from a monster, but sometimes things are not what they seem.
My Thoughts:
This is the first book that I have read by this author, I’m completely blown away I can’t believe that this is only the first book in the series. I can’t even imagine what will happen in the next book. This will definitely not be my last by this author. While reading this book did give me chills a few times and I did keep looking over my shoulder while reading. I’d say this is the perfect read just in time for Halloween.
This book follows a woman named Ivy she’s such a beautiful character. Something happens to her when she was 10 that leaves her in a mental hospital. As you read on you get to know more and more. While reading we get to meet Bain who is Ivy’s love interest and I loved there relationship and the dynamic it added to the story.
Josiah and Cyril are trying to solve the recent murders and realize that Ivy is connected somehow.
When the pieces of the story finally come together and everything makes sense, I was left shocked I didn’t see it happening the way it did at all.
This was truly a captivating story I was hooked from the first chapter. I think you should all check it out and get to know Ivy and Bain because there story is one you won’t forget
