Summary:

Her dad’s job is with the dead . . . and he’s bringing his work home with him.

Once again, seventeen-year-old Riley Smith is the new kid in school and her dad’s career has her back to being dubbed a freak. Truth is, she’s a much bigger freak than her classmates think. The only company she keeps these days is the dead who follow Dad home from work. She can see them. She can speak to them. And Fate seems to think she can help them solve their last problems so that they can move on to the other side. Which is odd, because with the loss of her mother and her father’s alcoholism, she’s got enough problems of her own.

But nothing could prepare her for the next tormented young spirit who darkens Riley’s door. The young woman’s death wasn’t the accident everyone believes. Soon Riley finds herself face-to-face with the killer and her only protection comes in the form of another spirit, Hayden, a boy her age with a heart-melting smile and understanding eyes that make her feel safe. If she can escape becoming the killer’s next victim, Riley knows she’ll have to help Hayden move on too, but what if she can’t let him go?

My Thoughts:

The first series that I have read by C.C was her Shadow Falls series Born at Midnight , Awake at Dawn , Taken at Dusk , Whispers at Moonrise , Chosen at Nightfall , and I loved it. I also read the first book in her Reborn series.

I thought this book was really well written like the previous books that I have read by this author. This book had me smiling and laughing. Riley is an amazing lead in this book. She is such a loving character she doesn’t take shit from anyone. I would love to be friends with her. With everything that is going on in her life she can handle it with such ease, when some people would be losing their minds.

Hayden is the perfect match for Riley even though he is a ghost. which I know is weird but the way that C.C wrote it, it was like he was real, he’s a charming bad boy an who doesn’t love that? Yet there was a teddy bear side to him as well. I related to him in some ways.

While reading this book there was some parts that gave me the chills. That’s why I love this book more. I wish there was more talk about her dad’s drinking but maybe that will come with the next book?

This book completely had me sucked in from the first chapter and I couldn’t put it down until I was finished. I can’t wait to see where the story goes next for Riley.
